The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. I've eaten 3-4 times over the years at Bistro Italiano and every time I've eaten here it has been a very enjoyable experience. They have a lot of delicious homemade Italian food. They make their own pastas. I've actually been in the restaurant when they were making the squid ink pasta. The desserts are also very masterful. I can recommend the calamari for appetizer. The calamari are fried lightly and the sauce is very flavorful. The pizza margherita is always simple and spot on. Any of their daily raviolis are always good. It's fun to experiment with the different fillings. I believe I've had their cheese and mushroom fillings. For entrees, I love their veal marsala. And for desserts I enjoy the tiramisu, but I particularly love the bright fruity full flavor of the Sicilian cassata cake.

The food is not very good and is over priced, service was so-so. We went hoping for a romantic dinner and were sat in the middle of several tables where it was noisy. Overall the bad food, poor service and dismal atmostphere did not make for a romantic evening.

Best Italian food in the Grand Valley! It's fresh and thoroughly homemade. The prosciutto e avocado was delicious! I'll definitely order it again. Save room for dessert, that menu is just as impressive as everything else. Service is great--it's a knowledgable and friendly staff.

Between the friendly staff, the packed seats, and the inviting ambiance, we walked in expecting a great meal. Ha! I feel so naive... I liked the bread and the roasted pepper spread they gave us. The calamari app was alright, but I've certainly had better. My sister's salmon seemed like it was frozen, rather than fresh and the potatoes that came with it were in a buttery, cream sauce. My risotto was DISGUSTING! I took one bite and literally spit it out. It was like one of those microwaveable Uncle Ben's cheesy rice things. Somebody else got something they called Rosetta, I think. It was like a pinwheel with pizza dough and cheese and sauce. It came highly recommended by the waiter... I understand trying to make your dishes "unique", but wtf? Is the chef 5? Who the hell came up with this idea? My dad's risotto was also terrible and my cousin's pizza was just okay. If someone gave me a blind taste test, I doubt I could pick between this place and Freshetta. At least the waiter apologized about the poor food and comped my risotto. That gained them an extra star.

Don't come here expecting some sort of modern italian fare like you might see on the cooking channel. This is down home old-school Italian cooking at it's best. Service is great, and you start off with a mixture of ZerGut (from Bulgaria) with cream and ricotta cheese to put on your bread. ZerGut is so good we bought a jar of it from them (they sell it for $5). We shared a bleu cheese and walnuts salad, which was fantastic and definitely large enough for 2 people to share. Don't feel like you need to order your own salad here unless you really want to take some home. Then we had the Tagliolini di Mare and the Veal Marsala, both of which paired perfectly with one of the local Gewurtz or Riesling wines because they are both on the sweet side. Portions are hearty and we even had leftovers to take home, so unfortunately no room for dessert for us. I would definitely come back to this place.

After two mediocre meals at Dolce Vita, I thought I'd be left with Carino's as my only "Italian" option in Grand Junction. I am so relieved we found il Bistro! First, a quick piece of advice. They have 3 tables in the front area, I don't recommend sitting there. I would try to get to the dining room if possible. We sat in the front (by the window) which is right by the kitchen and therefore smelled like Italian food all night. Also, people walk by that area a lot, some will stop and bend over to look at the dessert fridge, which means, their butt is only a few feet from your face. It is not the best dining experience. I was, however, very impressed with the food. The eggplant parm small plate was one of the best I've had. The delle feste salad was also extremely good. I was underwhelmed by their olives and the fried calamari small plates. For our entrees we had the veal marsala, veal al porcini, and the bison ossobuco. Everyone was very happy with their veal dishes, and I loved my ossobuco. It was quite tender and the risotto is came with was a perfect compliment. I also finally found a restaurant that serves decaf cappuccinos! They also have a very good tiramisu. We will definitely be back!

Mmm. My husband and I got a gift certificate for il Bistro for our wedding anniversary. We decided to try out the lunch first. Wow. We were pleasantly surprised with the food especially since the "other" Italian restaurant in town is several steps below Olive Garden. I won't name names in this small town. But I am not reviewing them.. My husband had butternut squash wrapped in pasta and this wonderful cheesy Gruyere sauce. The sauce would make your shoe taste delicious. It is so wonderful. I had the Italian Panini and it was nice and crispy with a lot of meat and cheese. We liked our lunch so much we decided to sign up for the Sunday night all you can eat Tapas. That was last night. I have not been this full in years. The ambiance is very nice and the lighting is warm. My only complaint is our little table was put in the middle of the dining room pathway so we had people trying to squeeze by us all night and the place was not full. The noise level was a bit high but I don't think they could do much about that. The food was amazing. A couple of Tapas favorites, Lamb Meatballs in a yogurt sauce, the spinach risotto was perfectly cooked, and my husband loved the polenta with mushrooms. We did not have room for desert but I was anxious to try the Cinnamon lemon Creme Brulee. Glad I did as it was worth it. They have cooking classes and other events every month. We will be going back.

We ate here after a long day of cycling, and maybe it was just my ravenous hunger talking, but this was the best Italian food I've ever had. We started with an order of calamari, which was tender and light, served with a tasty, lemony sauce. Several of us got veal dishes, which were amazing, and anything with house-made pasta was to kill for. Each dish was uniquely seasoned, intensely flavorful, and served in large portions, leading to incredible next-day leftovers. We will be back next time we're in town!

Will dine here again, and again, and again! Just in town for a bike event and was referred to this restaurant. Amazing...is really the only word to describe just how great this place is. From the beginning to end, the food and wine were fantastic! Main entrees and pastas were delicious to no end. I don't eat pasta very often, or Italian for that matter, but this could have been my last meal ever and I would have been fine with it! But the best of all was the desserts! Yum-o! Tiramisu was heaven, along with all the other desserts we ordered in our group! Save room...do not pass this up! Make sure you go ahead and book a reservation in advance because the place is packed, especially if you have a bigger party. I would go out of my way to eat here again! It's that good!

I took my wife here to celebrate her new job as the 4th grade teacher at Plateau Valley up on the mesa. We ordered a nice bottle of wine and enjoyed the food. Being on the newly renovated Main Street, we had a wonderful time on a Friday night.

We're big Italian dining (and cooking) fans and have enjoyed some remarkable dinners around the world. Never could we have expected what we would encounter in Grand Junction's charming, renovated downtown. Il Bistro Italiano was a real gem! First of all, downtown Grand Junction is a treat in and of itself with a thriving community of restaurants, shops and modern hotels. It's a destination in and of itself. The owner is from Northern Italy and brings the character of that region but with a menu and wine list that reflects even broader regional Italian favorites. The menu blends traditional favorites like lasagna with main courses you don't often see, like rosetta (roll-up featuring Provolone cheese and ham rolled up in a chewy pasta, then baked in a light creamy red sauce). And there's a wide selection of pizzas, as well. Oh, and they also address gluten free with a corn pasta at a very nominal additional charge. Many of the main courses are served in two portion sizes, allowing you to economize on your stomach or pocketbook if you wish. We do recommend, however, that you'll enjoy everything so much that you might just as well go for the gusto! The wine list extremely diverse blending Italy, local Colorado and other fine wines. The high end Italian selection was remarkable. But even moreso were the wines in the more affordable price range - great work was put into this selection! We chose the Allegrini Palazzo della Torre at just $35, described accurately so as a baby Amarone. For our dinner, we started with an amazing blue cheese and walnut salad featuring arugula. Main courses were lasagna and rosetta, topped off with tiramisu for desert. The restaurant is located on a corner with both outside and inside dining. Service was very personal with near perfect timing, with a single waitress serving us and a tableside visit from the owner several times. We felt very much at home - so much so we closed the restaurant, lingering to enjoy the warm Colorado evening. Enjoy, you will not be disappointed.

Best Italian restaurant in town, hands down. But here are some little known things about Il Bistro that make it especially awesome: 1) Tapas Night - its a great deal and a really fun time. Get reservations ahead of time for these dates. 2) The owner, Brunella periodically offers cooking classes that take place in the restaurant kitchen. I've taken several and they are wonderful! Check the Il Bistro website for upcoming classes, and if you see one, sign up fast. Spaces go quickly. 3) You can buy most any ingredient they use directly from their kitchen. We regularly buy fresh mozzarella, pasta, pecorino cheese and prosciutto - all MUCH higher quality and cheaper than you can get anywhere else. Just go in and tell the host you want to buy from the kitchen. 4) Brunella caters. She did my wedding and I couldn't have been more thrilled at how delicious and well done everything turned out. The guests are still raving. Again - you just have to ask.

Yum. Yum. Yum. This is one of the nicest restaurants in town, and they act like it. Here's a quick rundown of everything: Food: So delicious. My mom, my boyfriend, and I all got something different, and everything was a 9-10/10. The menu is a little difficult to decipher (a lot of it is in Italian) but our waiter was extremely helpful and suggested my main dish, which I was extremely happy with. Their creme brulee dessert was also quite wonderful. Service: Awesome....they check on you the perfect amount, where you can still have conversation but don't feel like your waiter has forgotten about you. As mentioned above, they are very helpful with selecting food and wines as well. Wine: They have a killer wine list. Nuf said. Ambiance: Great atmosphere, loud but not too loud, a little dark, but not too dark. We ate here in November, so outside seating wasn't available, but I know it is in the summer and they have a great downtown patio. Price: It's a little pricey, but this is just for the area. Grand Junction is overall very affordable/cheap, so it just seems like this place is a little expensive, when in reality it would be a steal in some place like Denver. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone, especially for any type of special occasion (anniversary, birthday, etc). I can't wait to have a reason to eat there again. :) -Rachel

Amazing food! Wonderful service! All of the pastas are made in house with local ingredients. A group of us were in town for a bachlorette weekend and had dinner here. They had bread on the table with a yummy roasted red pepper spread when we got there. We had amazing service and they were even able to suggest a few places in downtown Grand Junction for us to go out to after dinner. I was impressed by the number of local wines they had for purchase and how diligently they filled our water glasses! :) Both the pesto and traditional lasagna a were a group hit! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in Grand Junction!

Il Bistro Italiano does an excellent job at incorporating local ingredients such as Colorado lamb shank and bison into classic Italian dishes. The bison shank on saffron risotto was delicious and I appreciated the acid in the rice because it added a depth of flavor. A spoon in the shank to scoop out the marrow made me extra excited. Salads were fresh. The made in house pasta was unexpected due to the fact that Il Bistro Italiano is in Colorado; not exactly where you'd expect to find good Italian good, or least me anyways being from the Northeast. Overall Il Bistro Italiano is a fine option. Don't expect to be blown away, but just expect really, really good food.

Loved it! The service was great and the food was even better. I went with 3 of my friends/colleagues who were in town for a conference. We all really enjoyed our meals. I ordered Prosciutto E Avocado and it had a lot of really nice flavors. Delicious! Downtown Grand Junction has a nice feel and this place fits right in. I wish I could give a review on the food; but, we were vacationing in Grand Junction and TRIED to dine at II Bistro. While my family was parking the car, I happily bounced up to the host stand and said 3 please. OMG !!!!! You would have thought I sprang 3 heads and came from Mars. The host looked down his nose and smirked "do you have a reservation?" I frantically looked around for a sign saying reservations only, and there wasn't one. "No" I said. He then sneered "we are a reservation only restaurant." WOW !!! EXCUSE ME!!!! We ended up at Enzos and it was SUPER !!!

So we came to Il Bistro because I had a coupon that got us a free entree. Not going to lie, that's exactly why we went. The place is interesting-- half homemade pasta market, half seating area. The decor is interesting.... We sat down and got some bread and hummus (not very good hummus, but that's okay). I got a fennel salad that was really quite good but doused with just a little too much dressing. I then had the small portion of the lasagna, which I thought was pretty good. Lasagna is always comfort food. The pasta is all homemade, which I can definitely appreciate. Our waiter was a little bizarre, but nice enough! Unfortunately, the women behind us were OB-NOXIOUS. Boooooo.

I'm traveling from Chicago to LA and stopped over in Grand Junction. The hotel (Courtyard Marriott) recommended this restaurant and even dropped me off in the hotel van. The hotel did not advise me that a reservation was needed. How disappointing to be greeted by a snobby manager who informed me it would be a 30 minute wait without a reservation, however. Um, I was driving all day, sorry I didn't get to make that reservation. Since the restaurant does not have a bar, my only choice was to stand in the lobby for a half hour?! By myself. On a friday night. Really? The manager, in a condescending tone, asked me if I knew there was a convention in town. Again, the driving thing got in the way of my convention in town research. So obnoxious. puh-leeze. Doubtful I'll be back in GJ, especially after this, but if I am will not return here.

Hubby and I come here for special occasions for dinner. We are never disappointed. Start with the Romano salad...it's like a Caesar salad, but with a spicy garlic dressing with fresh shaved parmesan. I always get the Scaloppina al Limone..the vegetables that come with it are different every time I order it letting me know they only use the freshest, seasonal ingredients available. Husband usually orders some kind of pasta with seafood and he's always impressed. Great wine list including many local wines which we enjoy.

I've had a very nice experience here, and a very bad one. I like to think the bad one was a slip-up, but only time will tell. The good experience was lovely service and yummy food. The bad experience consisted of 1 hour to actually get our food, and my parents ordered the special which was still cold on inside. They wouldn't send them back because it took too long to get them the first place. Shame. No excuse for that, even if you are busy and have other, larger parties to serve. However, I've been there since and it wasn't an issue. Nice shi-shi lil place to go, even has a deli with some desserts in the windows...

Stopped in here on a drive from denver to san francisco. The service was excellent- everybody was very nice and gave us some good driving trips, but OMG the food is terrible! I had high hopes for this place because all the dishes are actually listed in their proper italian names and they make their own pasta. My bf and i started with a house salad, which was particularly dismal as far as a simple house salad goes. Then i ordered a pasta with eggplant and tomatoes and my bf ordered some pesto gnocchi. Both our dishes were barely palettable. The pasta was really soggy and the flavor was all off. It didnt even taste like eggplant. This was the worst italian food i've had in a long time

OK, I went back because a friend really wanted to eat here. It's busier now that the local economy seems to have picked up, and my experience was better than the disaster that occurred here last time. The service was fairly amateurish as usual, but the food was better. It's an option again for me, but not on the top of my list.

il Bistro Italiano has an intimate atmosphere, and a lovely cozy vibe to it. The menu offers a good variety of unique pasta dishes and entrees, and also provides familiar Italian classics. I really appreciate that they give the diner the option of a small or large portion. The pasta is made fresh in-house, and that includes thier gluten-free items. I adore the Butternut Squash soup....sweet, creamy and light with an unexpected topping of Gorgonzola to add a perfect salty contrast. Another favorite is the Tagliolini de Mare, featuring a flavorful combination of scallops, shrimp and salmon, really fresh-tasting. On a subsequent visit I ordered the Rosetta, a hearty ham, cheese and pasta dish with a beautiful presentation. My companion ordered the Salmon with whipped root vegetables--the fish was cooked perfectly, moist and so yummy! The waitstaff is professional and efficient, friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. I look forward to my next visit!

Attending the Tour of the Moon bike event and thought it wise to get a reservation. It was a busy Friday night downtown including this establishment. Everyone was attentive and pleasant including what appeared to be the owner who was very in tune with all that was going on. The food was very good with many varied options and portions (vegetarian, gluten-free, small plates). It is a bistro type setting, not very large yet very well done. Outdoor seating also available and in a good location on Main St. Pricing seemed appropriate and the wine list was very impressive. When in GJ a great place to experience!

My wife and I were driving through and we stayed at the Springhill Marriott, who actually recommended this place to us. After some Yelp review checks, we figured we would come here and have a nice dinner since we hadn't had good food in a few days. Overall, I am upset I paid $68 for the food we ate and the service we received. We are a younger couple and when we told the host that we did not have reservations, he subtly frowned and told us there was one corner seat left. We accepted the seat and saw that we were tucked into the corner of an almost empty eating area, but another couple was eating directly next to us. Talk about an uncomfortable situation. Anyway, we ordered two salads and some calamari, which was of below average quality and the salad was extremely salty. I have no idea why there was so much salt all over my salad, and the calamari was no better. Very bland and almost soggy, something I expect from a fly-by-night bar/restaurant. My wife ordered a chicken plate and I ordered a lamb plate, and neither was worth the price we paid. The server rarely came to our table and was clearly paying more attention to the older couples there, as if he felt we weren't worth the dirt under his feet. I'm obviously never coming back here because I just stopped in on a cross-country trip, but the fact that I'm spending the time to write this should speak volumes about my experience. It almost seemed like they were going out of their way to insult us.

I have never been to GJ, but the downtown Main St. area is lovely, with fountains, artwork, interesting shops -- very well done. We went on Friday night, and unfortunately, many shops were already closed. If there's not enough business to stay open, I understand. On to Il Bistro, this place is great. We were promptly seated, a small basket of bread varieties and bread sticks individually wrapped were presented, together with a dipping type sauce. The waiter could explain the evening's specials. The food was delicious. The wine offerings, although not enormous, fit in with the Italian theme of the restaurant. Conversation without shouting was possible. All in all, a relaxing, pleasant meal.

Extremely bland food. Staff under trained for a "fine dining" restaurant. Touted, "fresh herbs" were not fresh herbs. I had salmon and asked for it rare. Well, rare it wasn't. My coworker had veal saltimbocca and salty it was. You can do better.

I would probably rated this restaurant three stars. My food was fine but bland. Nothing wrong but nothing exceptional either. Service was ok. We had a younger waiter who who was ingratiating and seemed to want to talk to excess. Others in our party had a better food experience, so the overall consensus was four stars.

Went here for my mother's birthday. We were given a table directly next to the busser station and entrance/exit of the kitchen, so it was very busy and noisy. I asked to move tables, but I was told that we could not be accommodated (we were only a party of 3). My salad (equivalent of a Caesar, but they called it something else) came with the bonus of a long black hair in it...which I didn't find until after finishing about half of it. That was nice. The rest of the food was good, but certainly not memorable. Staff was average, to slightly below. In a word, they were indifferent. I watched a server drop a decent amount of lettuce onto the floor next to our table as he exited the kitchen. Then proceeded to watch every server in the restaurant look down at the lettuce as they walked past it, step over it, and then leave it there. Not a single person, including what looked to be the manager, ever picked it up for at least the 30-45 minutes until we left the restaurant. Given the way the place works, it might still be there. It's a mediocre restaurant, at best. It's relatively inexpensive though, so I guess if that's what you're after, this might be the place for you.

The service was pretty good. The 3 other people I was with really enjoyed their food, which is why it received 4 stars instead of the 3 that I would have given if I had gone by myself. I had the Cannelloni Verdi. It wasn't bad, but the balance between spinach and ricotta was pretty disappointing.

I am going to give 5 stars since I had a lovely experience. With nice weather sit out on the patio. Come 7 o'clock on a week night it was full but I arrived early and was able to get a table without a reservation. Nice selection of homemade pastas. Was (surprised) to see that at least half of the menu stated either gluten or dairy free entrees. I had quattro fromaggi that was made with a seasonal beet pasta. It did not have a strong "beety" flavoring. They went light on the mushrooms in it which also was fine with me since I like but do not love mushrooms. I had the Chocolate Cherry Almond tart for dessert - FABULOUS! Pair the entire meal with 2 glasses on wine (vermentino and a pinot grigio) with the warm evening and it was great. Looking around me, the mixed greens with goat cheese salad looked great as did the scallopina al limon (chicken in a white wine sauce - also comes in a 'small' portion). Bread with some mild tasting hummus was brought out. Water glass refilled promptly throughout. I had Charlie as a server. He was great. Offered his opinion on entrees and desserts without being too presumptuous to your tastes. Was very personable and definitely knew the menu and what each app/entree/dessert/wine was about. BTW - supposedly you can also get a large Chocolate Cheery Almond tart for parties. Too bad I only have a carry-on with me..... 2 glasses of wine, the pasta dish, and the dessert was $40 before gratuity.

Read a lot of very positive reviews on another site, so we were looking forward to eating here as we drove through. Nice decor. House-made pasta. The food was good. However, our waitress did not tell us about the special, did not offer us ground pepper, as we heard other servers doing. We specifically asked for our entrees without cheese, as we are allergic to it. Had the artichoke appetizer, which was delicious. Unfortunately, our server did not warn us that the filling/pesto was full of parmesan. We found out the hard way, after the meal. The entrees were great, but the server didn't notice that they had cheese on them, until we called it to her attention. She took it back to the kitchen and they fixed it. My wife ordered an extra serving of the house-made linguini. They ran out of linguini, so the kitchen sent out some other pasta. We sent it back. I think they sent out angel hair, and wife said that it was good. Food was good, our server was not. I would hesitate to return.

I have never had bad service or a bad meal here. We went to Il Bistro for Valentine's Day. They had a very well coreographed set up for those that made reservations. On any other day, it is a good idea to call for reservations, but not always necessary. Walking into this restaraunt is like walking out of Grand Junction, CO and actually going into an upscale restaraunt.

We inadvertently arrived during Tapas night expecting a normal date night but found a way more fun and interesting experience. We were promptly sat and Jared, our server brought samples of wine so we were able to choose just the right wine for our meal. GO TO TAPAS NIGHT! It was so much fun to just have wonderful food brought out to you without making any choices, and you get such an array of different flavors! The food and service was fantastic. I felt like I was in Europe with a wonderful combination of Spain and Italy at our little corner table. WIN!

Here's the thing. We ended up having a fantastic experience at Il Bistro Italiano, but it easily could have gone the other direction - which was how it started. My husband and I went there to celebrate our anniversary, which I told the woman who answered when I made the reservation. We asked for a patio table - no problem, she'd make the note. When we got there, though, no note had been made of the anniversary or the patio request, and we were seated right next to the kitchen. I know someone has to sit there, but on my anniversary? Really? Our server was abrupt, bordering on rude, seeming annoyed when we wanted time to look over the menu before we ordered (I know, so weird of us!), after she took an excessively long time to greet us. We asked to move to a different table, which ended up being in another server's section. He came by, realized we already had a server, apologized for interrupting us, and left. Several minutes later, after our server had completely ignored us, he came by again and asked if he could get an appetizer started for us. Since he seemed to actually be interested in our business and not irritated by our very existence, we asked that he be our server going forward. And from there on out, everything was great. The food was excellent, well prepared and perfectly timed - try the Greek yogurt cheesecake if they still have it. The wine list is thoroughly explained and has some killer deals on it if you look. Overall, I really enjoyed this place, but the service could have ruined it. If you start out with poor service, consider asking if there's someone else who can help you - you may just have gotten stuck with the waitress who seems to hate waiting tables.

I have eaten here twice and each time I walk in I feel like I'm intruding on some secret club where I'm not invited to attend. If you enjoy bad attitudes & average handmade pasta then this is your place! The wine list is okay if you're looking for an entire bottle but the list by the glass is on par with an Olive Garden (I assume). The food is okay but nothing to seek out. My vote is to pass on this restaurant unless you really need a noodle fix.

I enjoy this place for their side salads and soups. Most of the time their soups sound a little foreign to me, but are always tasty. I did try an entree months ago (my first visit) and I wasn't a fan. I was a little apprehensive about returning, but the side dishes I've ordered on a couple different occasions have never failed. Great Italian restaurant in Grand Junction. We came here without a reservation on a busy Saturday night and only had a minor wait to get seated. Hostess was very friendly and genuinely seems to care about seating patrons as efficiently as possible. They had some very tasty specials which the waitress explained in great detail and also gave some recommendations on a few items. The food itself is terrific. I ordered the Pomodoro E Burratta and it was excellent. My wife ordered the caprese salad (which to our delight had heirloom tomatoes in it) and one of the specials which was a Tagliatelle and chanterelle mushroom dish...again another great presentation. These guys know what they're doing. Fresh ingredients, fresh home made pasta, what's not to like? Would definitely go back.

We tried going here last weekend, but were told a minimum 1hr minute wait, because there wasn't a reservation. Interestingly, there are no signs anywhere that require or even suggest the need for a reservation. The restaurant was close to full, as it was just about 7PM, so 30min, sure, but an hour? When we returned home, I preceded to check their website, and that also does not mention reservations either, other than a link to make one if you'd like. This weekend, we heeded the warning to make a reservation, and did so. The reservation was for 6:45. We arrived about five minutes early, and were promptly seated, as the place was pretty quiet. We were directed to a front-window corner table that was smashed between the front window and the 'bar'. It was barely large enough for two, let a lone the four seats it was set for. It was upper 90s outside, so I was looking forward to air conditioning, but it had to be close to be 80s inside; and being sat where we were, there was zero air flow. The service... It was lackluster at best. It was 10 minutes before our drink order was taken, and another 10 minutes before we received said drinks (again, we were 3 feet from the bar and the girl who took our order was the one at the bar). It ended up being 30-35 minutes to get our meal, which wasn't terrible, but the place was pretty empty. The food... We both ordered salads -apparently Caesar salads. I say this, because that's what I asked for, and the waitress promptly said the Romano salad. My wife said the dressing had too much garlic, but I wouldn't know, because I had a difficult time finding the dressing on my plate. It was basically dry lettuce, a couple croutons, and crisps (more on those). As for the dressing. I have no idea what is was. What was there, tasted like a bland cream. It had zero flavor. Back to the parmesan crisps. They were salty, and over-powering. They made it impossible to taste anything else, and it took almost a full glass of water to rid my mouth of the flavor. Once the meal arrived, my wife liked her lasagne (though she said it wasn't anything fantastic), but my lamb left me wanting. I requested medium, and it came medium-well at best. There was maybe one bite that made it to medium, as it there was no pink at all. I guess I should have asked for medium-rare. There were a number of places that it also was charred to the point of that unpleasant carbon/charcoal, burned flavor, and one terribly salty bite. The potatoes were cooked well, however. The last few items... The waitress, when told the salads were bland and dry, simply said "sorry to hear that", and nothing more was made of it. The deserts were so-so, but not worth the money. Overall, the only good things about the meal were the bus-service and wine. The bus-boy was friendly, and quick to remove plates and fill our water, so way-to-go there; and the wine was good, but that's not a reflection on the restaurant. For a meal that was over $70 for two people, I would expect (and have always received from other places) significantly better, in service, quality, and atmosphere. It was our first, and probably last time visiting IL Bistro, and we will not be recommending it to anyone.

Wow, I enjoyed my lunch here so much! I will tell you all the great things and then I will give you my little nit picks. We sat down and ordered one of their "close out" wines. A nice red at a great price. We were served a veggie spread with some (seemingly) house made bread. The whole grain bread was amazing - lots of grain bites in it and good chew. The white bread seemed to be a sourdough type with caraway seeds in it. Good, but couldn't hold a candle to the whole grain bread. The veggie spread - let me tell you that they should sell it. I asked what was in it - ricotta, cream cheese, sun dried tomatoes, garlic, olive oil.....So amazingly delicious. We shared a caprese salad. The heirloom tomatoes (from Blaine??) were huge and flavorful. The house made mozzarella was fine - and they were liberal with basil, balsamic and good olive oil. A success. I ordered the Rosetta - seems to be a signature dish. It is house made pasta sheets rolled with rosemary ham and provolone cheese. Slices are baked and served with spicy tomato cream sauce. I didn't expect much out of it as I am not a fan of baked pasta dishes. But, I read so many good reviews that I had to taste it. I was very happy. Pasta was definitely al dente. Honestly, I didn't taste the ham or cheese particularly - but the pasta and the sauce were wonderful! The tomato cream sauce tasted tomato-y and rich with a not-overly spicy (but well seasoned) edge. My husband ordered the filetto - a pork tenderloin butterflied, marinated and cooked with rosemary, garlic, and balsamic vinegar. The meat serving was very large! It was tender and the sauce over it was just yummy. It was served with asparagus (tender pencil thin spears) and roasted potatoes and tomatoes. Those potatoes - wow. They were a yukon gold type cut in cubes and lightly roasted. There was some creamy stuff on them along with the roasted grape tomatoes. I had to ask if it was butter or cream. The waitress explained it was a wine cream sauce. I'd eat that on styrofoam - it was really a great addition to the nicely roasted potato/tomato mix. So 5 stars for the food. Nitpicks? We got there after the lunch rush and though there were not many people there, most of the tables were waiting to be cleared (I think they should consider a bussing staff). The wait staff was still a little overwhelmed from lunch service - though our waitress was very helpful and pleasant in spite of that fact that she was kept running. They close at 2 PM for lunch on weekdays.. Which makes you feel a little rushed if you get there after 1 PM. I think the 2 PM closing is really early. And no weekend lunch?? Eating out on weekends is a favorite past time for me! Why no pizza on the lunch menu? Why not more appetizers? I know they use local veggies - why not give credit to the farm/farmers that are their source? The interior is oddly sterile in spite of a lot of art, undulating ceiling and modern Italian lighting. Not a big thing - but maybe doing something with the carpet and table tops would make it seem more "fine dining" - as the food derserves. So - I will be back and I will work my way through the menu!

For an out of town visitor this first time experience left wishing we had chosen a different option. Service was slow, so slow it took an hour to get our food AFTER we ordered. Other guests were sat and finished before we got our food. We only a party of 3 and ordered simple menu items. The food was good but not great. Had it been exceptional they could have earned a few more stars. Make sure you have no other option because this place may be good but their first impression left us wishing for more and our expectations are very low:-(. An empty apology and no offer to make amends for their admitted serious delay only pours salt onto an open wound. Unless you are a regular, don't eat here.

We've dined at Il Bistro Italiano 3 times now when vacationing in the area, and have thoroughly enjoyed it each visit. The rosetta is phenomenal! The ragu is also fabulous. Service is exceptional. We've been lucky enough to have Brittany (?sp) wait on us two of the three times we've been. She is outstanding! My only request would be more local wines available by the glass. The wine list is a good one, but would prefer more by-the-glass choices from area vintners.

This lovely Italian restaurant is definitely a hot date destination on Friday and Saturday nights. Making a reservation a few days ahead of time is a must! The interior of this bustling Italian hub is beautiful and unique that satisfies both your desire for modern attributes and Classic Italian appeal. The cuisine at this delightful dinning room is homey with a modern flare. I love that they change up their ravioli consistently, seeing as that's my favorite kind of Italian food. I will say that I have had better Italian food in cities such as Denver, but for it being in a Grand Junction... It's definitely one of the better places to dine. Make this your Italian desires destination for the western slope. They are growing in their style and class and it's great to go along with them on their delicious adventure.

Il Bistro Italiano is always my first choice when looking for a "fine dining" experience. The fresh pasta is delicious. The rosetta never disappoints. I'm not a wine drinker so I cannot comment from personal experience. However, my dining companions speak highly of the quality and selection of wines. My most recent choice was Pasta Calbrese (sic?). Although the menu specified cappilini pasta, I was able to sub spinach tagliatelle. Home-made (in house) and fabulous.

(Il Bistro, please do not take that as a suggestion to raise your prices. Thanks!) I frequently get the Rosetta, simply because I'm pretty sure it's made from pure Italian magic. This dish includes the spicy pasta sauce that goes perfectly with rolls of pasta, ham, and provolone. Top that thing off with some freshly grated parmesan and pair it with a glass of local pinot noir: that's amore. They also offer a membership card that entitles you to frequent-eater points, and, when you sign up, gets you some nice coupons for events like your birthday and anniversary. Because, you know, my wife and I needed a reason to come here more often.

I was in Grand Junction on business for a few days and decided to check this place out. I find most Italian restaurants in the US are either pretty authentic, or way too "Americanized". This place definitely fell on the authentic side. I had the Rosetta as an appetizer. It was really good! I never heard of it before, but homemade pasta, ham and cheese has to be good. As a main I had the lemon chicken, which was pounded nice and thin, and cut easily with a fork. It was served with a nice amount of garlic mashed potatoes. The atmosphere is just so-so. I think the place used to be a drug store or something, and while they did the best they could with the decor, it's just kind of 'Meh". The staff was great though, and made me feel welcome. I'll definitely go back.

Perfection. So odd to find this in such a remote location. This place puts all Italian restaurants to shame in Colorado. I still can't believe it's here, just 65 miles from Hillbilly Country (Rifle/Silt/Glenwood Springs). The homemade pasta alone sets this location far apart. It's also what they do with the pasta, the sauces, the crispy shell to the lasagna, for instance, that making it so remarkable. Brace yourself...when I like a place, it invariably closes as locals never agree with me on food.

I will go out on a limb here and say it was a very good meal. The salad was nothing fancy but it did have shredded beets and carrots and some fresh greens. Fresh makes it better. For my party of friends pasta dishes were the entree of choice. Both raved of how light the sauce was not heavy and over bearing. Just down right tasty. I on the other hand had boneless beef ribs with horseradish infused mashed potatoes and some very delicious corn with zucchini . I was only go three stars because of the wait for food but since it was good what the heck. Sorry we did not have room for dessert it looked very good. Maybe next time.

Ravioli was severely undercooked, but the flavor was good so I asked if that was the norm for this particular chef. The server, who was very friendly but not as attentive as I would have liked, said she would get it remade. It came out exactly the same, and cold. Outside of Italy, it's hard to find food this delicious. And in a town where the Olive Garden parking lot is always packed, we need to make sure this place thrives. Because if it goes away I am going to be FURIOUS... Let me just say this place is incredible. The food, the service, everything. I've never eaten anything short of delectable here. The quality of the dishes and the skill that goes into preparing the dishes is unmatched in Grand Junction. This place is authentic and I highly recommend it. Come for lunch - the prices are more reasonable, though I would say that dinner is definitely worth it, too. It's also gluten-free friendly (yes, they have gluten-free pasta!) and vegetarian friendly.

This place was fantastic. We strolled in Saturday evening after the wine festival in Palisade. Despite there being a sign out front saying we would not be able to get a table without a reservation that evening, they gave us a spot on the patio right away. The inside was very beautiful with an open view of the pizza oven and their fresh pasta for sale in glass displays. The bread came out with a creamy red dip that had a little kick to it - not really sure what it was but it was good. For an appetizer we ordered the gazpacho which had a great taste, consistency, and was full of lump crab meat. For the entrees we ordered one of the pizzas and the prosciutto y avocado pasta. They were both SO good and very authentic. Their wine list was extensive and had dozens of bottles of unique Italian wines on it. Overall, a great experience with an excellent waiter and very reasonably priced! Owner was cool too!

Simply the best Italian food in Grand Junction! We always choose this restaurant on our date nights because the atmosphere is sophisticated, comfortable, and relaxing. Recently we had a delicious tomato and mozzarella appetizer and told our waitress how much we enjoyed it. What a lovely surprise in Grand Junction. Wonderful house made pasta with sauce made from local tomatoes. The romana salad, which is their take on a caesar salad, was delicious but a bit dry. Fried green tomatoes a bit too thickly sliced for me. Perhaps the best was the excellent bread topping made from peppers and cream and ricotta or something like that. Delicious!

The Parmesan soup is good, the salads are decent but overpriced. The entrees look better in text than on a (plastic!) plate. Variety of desserts. Been here a half dozen times over past few years. Probably won't go again.

By far the best Italian place in the valley. Northern style Italian food. This is not Americanized Italian, it's true Italian. If you want American Italian, go to Olive Garden. I take clients here and eat here regularly. Everything on the menu is fantastic and full of flavor. The Rosetta is the best rosetta I have ever had and I've eaten a lot of rosetta from all my travels. Closed on Sunday's and Monday's but I highly recommend eating here when in town.

A great place. We started with the Romano salad. Spicy and fresh. The ham and mushroom pizza was terrific and not to be missed. Finally the Rosetta pasta was tasty. The pasta was al dente but flavorful and delicious.

Cannot be beat in GJ! Il Bistro is one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. It's one of those places that you'd love to spread the word. The waitstaff was very knowledgable and efficient. the food was EXCELLENT. The atmosphere was terrific. The wine menu was not extensive, but perfectly paired for the evening, (the Zenato Valpolicella was supurb) Great night. Will be back. :)

One of the best Italian restaurants I've eaten in, bar none. Food is great, service is so courteous and welcoming (shout out to Kendra our great waitress). Went there with the family - wife and three kids. We started with the Burrata salad - fresh and tasty. I got the ravioli of the day - mushroom filled homemade ravioli with truffle sauce - to die for. WIfe had the avocado and prosciutto taglioni - she loved it! KIds split had the seafood pasta - also loved it (paid the extra $2 to split it. Each portion was big enough - worth the $2. Son had the kids pasta with marinara sauce - also great. Great service, great artisan pasta, wonderful sauces, and a killer creme brulee - winning!

Very good food! Staff very friendly and attentive! Desserts are very delish! A little on the pricey side.
